Timaru Librarian visits Rata Kindergarten

Our curriculum Te Whariki states values the importance of children connecting links with the family and the wider world and that these are affirmed and extended. Rata Kindergarten have created relationships and links between their Kindergarten and the local Library

Ingrid – who is a Librarian at the Timaru Library – visited us all at Rata and brought with her a fantastic selection of books in her kete.

Before Ingrid read ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, she passed around small images of the fruit and other kai mentioned in the story.  All of the tamariki had one or two pieces of the caterpillar’s kai to contribute to the storytelling.

Ingrid talked to the tamariki about their past visit to the library in Temuka, and about the trip that is planned for next week.  It was a great way to create a link between the library and Rata, by having a Librarian as our manuhiri.
