Last term saw the tamariki at Rata kindergarten being engaged in a deep inquiry around the world of Sloths. This interest came about from two children finding a picture of a Sloth in one of our nature books. What is this? Why is it sleeping? Why are Sloths slow? Where do they live?
Over the term together we have made many new discovers. This was supported by researching world protected animals. Purchasing a soft toy sloth to be a part of the Rata whanau. Visit from the librarian with books to grow our learning. ‘Mr Sloth has been on many adventures with the children from Rata, to the Library, to the Ngahere/ forest, home with the teachers and now each weekend he goes home with a family. His adventures have been made into his own profile book to allow us to revisit what he has been up to.
The tamariki are now concerned about where Mr Sloth will sleep when they are not at kindergarten. The end of the Term saw a bedroom being created along with a working lamp. Great examples to working together and showing manaakitanga for our new friend ‘Mr Sloth’
