Matariki signifies the Māori new year and for the tamariki and whānau at Kindergarten we have gathered together over the past few weeks to celebrate Fairlie Area whānau communities by hosting a fathers evening and a shared Matariki morning kai.
Fathers evening coincides with Matariki each year and is an annual tradition for the 4-year-old tamariki. The evening ensures fathers an opportunity to engage with their tamariki and kaiako (teachers) in the Kindergarten environment.
The shared morning kai included the Fairlie Playgroup this year and it was lovely to welcome new families into Kindergarten.
Tamariki confidently performed a range of waiata at both occasions.
Kowhai Kindergarten celebrated Matariki with an exciting lantern walk, a shared pizza tea and waiata.
