A puzzling time͛ at Fairlie Kindergarten.
Fairlie Area Kindergarten recently received a donation from the Kimbell Residents committee as a generous gesture of community goodwill.
These funds were used to purchase some new wooden puzzles for the children. The puzzles are individually crafted and designed by a New Zealand company Kidz Jigz. The puzzles are such a welcome addition to our learning environment. Puzzle play supports learning across all strands of Te Whāriki. In particular, working with puzzles supports the Communication strand as children experience the symbols of their culture including that of numeracy and other mathematical concepts.
Through the Exploration strand children develop working theories about spatial understanding and they learn strategies for active exploration, thinking and reasoning.
One of the curriculum priorities at Fairlie Area Kindergarten is family and community. In essence, the generous donation from a local community group really does epitomise the sentiments of ͚it takes a village to raise a child”.
The teachers and children are very grateful for generous community support.
